It is the 266th birthday of Caroline Herschel, pioneering female astronomer. Some facts:

-She was the only woman to receive the gold medal from the Royal Astronomical Society from its inception until 1996Caroline Herschel, German-British astronomer

-She was a professional soprano

-She was assistant to her brother, world famous astronomer William Herschel

-She was the first woman to discover a comet

-She was the first woman ever to be paid for her work in science (and by the KING no less!)
